Skype user base reaching the sky...
Yes, that’s roughly the count of users who were online today on Skype :)
According to Jaanus on Share Skype, 5 million people is:
- more than 3 times the number of people in Estonia
- about 13 times the people living in Tallinn where we are building Skype
- about a third of greater London area
- a quarter of New York metropolitan area
- 1/260th the population of China
Staurt Henshal further explained what this means: “for those of you new to Skype, active online users represents the number of users currently logged into the Skype cloud and available to take a call or text message. Most probably use Skype at least some time during the day. It doesn't mean 5 million people are talking all at once. It does mean that more people are on Skype than live in many countries. It also means that Skype is larger than many national telephone companies. ", he said.
Congratulations and keep growing, SKYPE! btw, do you skype?
Considering the curiousity of BindasBay members here, following introduction about Skype is added:
"Skype - The whole world can talk for free!" - It is a peer-to-peer voice service. Users may call landlines and cellphones for a nominal fee; users may call each other for free. It’s free and easy to download and works from any part of the world. With all the globalization, Skype serves right with its easy-to-use features and amazing clarity of calls. Few friends of mine use Skype to call their families in India, Europe and USA, almost on a daily basis. Learn more about Skype on Skype :)

Nishu, SouthPaw,ObiWan - To serve your interest, I included a small introduction about Skype in the post!:)
Anil - Yes eBay owns it now!:)
vamsee :
The rates :
India € 0.125 € 0.144
India - Mobile € 0.138 € 0.159
India-Ahmedabad € 0.125 € 0.144
India-Bangalore € 0.138 € 0.159
India-Hyderabad € 0.125 € 0.144
India-Madras € 0.125 € 0.144
India-New Delhi € 0.125 € 0.144
the rates are more costlier than the rates offered by Reliance Indiacall. And as for the free calls between skype users, isnt it same as google talk, which is alos for free. So I am not really gettting the Big Aura of Skype. Kindly enlighten me .

Anil - Good Point! To be frank, I am not the right person to comment on this, but personally a company founded just 2+ years back with already around 60 million registered users and with a community of 5 million plus online users at a single time, I am confident enough to say that Skype surely proves to have GREAT potential!:)
Also, check out this post by Om Malik, where he talks more about Skype revenue statistics.
ya, i saw it and registered my self also.
Hey, But Do we need to pay something for it?? I guess, no. isnt it just the local dialing to internet provider? and thats it? Simple internet telephoney? I hope that in near future(5 more yrs only) we will get the awesome broadband connectivity in hand held devices and everything will emerge into one!
Thanks for the intorduction. Cos I was still a lil clueless. :)
thanks for the intro..never heard abt it
i have skype...been using it for 1.5 to make phone calls. i know you have one..but i only use when i want to call someone. after that, i just shut it off.
heard that ppl have met some friends or lovers using skype.
Nishu - yes its free, enjoy!:)
My Ramblings, Shikha - Glad to help:)
Elaine - really? finding your love on Skype ye...Sounds like a good deal ;)
hahah..now that your friends heard it. they're going to sign up immediately!!!
when you sign up for skype. there are ppl who wants to add you in your list. so, it's up to you if you want to know them. you can opt the NOT VISIBLE option. therefore, no one can find you.
it's only free if another person signs up for SKYPE too. i find that the rates really good.
anyways, vamsee....don't mind adding you :)
hmm thnxx for the information Vamsee....i will check it out...tcc byee
vamsee, thanks for linking to me. enjoying your blog immensely and looking forward to pimping you. :)

Wow 5 million users online at once..that's just too damn good..I've heard about Skype even tried to use it once but I found no one to make calls too lol..now that you've recommended it, I'll give it a second shot!! Those statistics look mindboggling, don't they??Thanks for providing a useful piece of information!! I've blogrolled you..have fun and keep posting!!
elaine - good piece of info. Thanks for adding me :)
Jackal - glad to be of help!
Ignatious - I like your poker posts, buddie:)
Ajay & Alive 'n Confused - Enjoy!
Sudarshan - Enjoy and the numbers are just increasing every day! Thanks for blogrolling me :)
hey lol i downloaded skype but i've got no contacts lol any tips ??
sudarshan: i got ideas for you....start adding people! :) tell them you're young, handsome, new guy looking for friends.
that's how it will start....:D
Sudarshan - I guess Elaine's tip is the best!:)
Elaine - you seem to be an expert here ;)
Anil the Great - Hey Anil, as per your last comment, the skype rates you quoted are in euro cents which converts to approximately
2 US cents per min. Check here for more details on Skype rates. On the other hand, Reliance Indiacall charges you 12.9 cents per min.
Now for the Google talk vs Skype comparision - Skype even allows calling physical telephone numbers (Home/Work/Mobile) without actually forcing the receiver to have a Skype account, while Google talk allows PC-2-PC communication only.
With this the Skype popularity, I guess is unanimously justified :)
hey thats surprising.. i never thought such a huge no: of ppl using skype..
i use skype hardly:-p
